Tulasi

 Tulsi has been used in India for around 5000 years and is acclaimed for its healing properties of the mind, body and spirit

It is highly aromatic and is used for purifying space . Tulasi is a sacred plant in Hindu .Hindus regard it is an earthly manifestation of the goddess Tulasi . The offering of its leaves is mandatory in ritualistic worship.Almost every Hindu household has one or several ‘Tulsi’ plants as Hindus worship the Tulasi plant as the Goddess Lakshmi, who is the consort of Lord Vishnu the Creator. The Tulasi plant also has many healing properties aside from its religious symbolism, making it ideal for worship since it has the ability to heal. The extracts from Tulasi leaves are used in traditional Ayurvedic medicines."Hindus worship Tulasi in morning and evening.



Tulsi is one of the eight indispensable things in Vedic Worship.

When leaves are plucked , the following Sanskrit mantra is chanted

cayanodbhava-dhukham ca                                                                                                  
yad hradi tava vartate                                                                                           
 tat ksamasva jagan-matah                                                                                               
vrnda devi namo stu te                                                                                                        
"O Tulasi devi , i offer my respectful unto you. Kindly forgive me if i have caused you pain by picking your leaves and manjaris , O mother of the universe "                      




There are two types of Tulasi . One is called Krishna Tulasi because it is said to be the same color as Sri Krishna-purple.

Benefits of tulasi:


  •  Fever and common cold:
 Tulasi has  good germicidal agent and a disinfectant, fungicidal, anti-bacterial and anti-bio-tic that protects the human body from all types of viral infections.
  • Protects the heart:
  Tulasi has a powerful anti-oxidant component called Eugenol. This compound helps protect the heart by keeping one’s blood pressure under control and lowering his/her cholesterol levels.
  •  Cures a headache:
 Tulasi helps to relieve headaches caused due to sinusitis, allergies, cold or even migraines.
  •  Stomach problems:
 Several stomach problems like acidity, constipation and flatulence can also be cured with tulasi leaves. It also helps people suffering from vomiting and lack of appetite.
  • Lung disorder:
 Several compounds present in tulasi like Vitamin C, camphene, Eugenol can cure lung congestion. They have proven to be effective in healing damage caused by smoking, tuberculosis etc.
