Guthu House


Guthu house is a traditional house also called as main house in a village . During old time Guthu House community people were respectable, dignified , and rich  knowledgeable people ,who continued and enriched traditions and values. Guthu House is an attractive ,  majestic structure that sheltered traditional undivided Guthu family . The house was build with multi straw roof , had many strong intricately carved  pillars , beautifully sculptured windows and palatial doors which were  carved beautifully , gracefully and which reflected  tradition  . It comprises of separate wings for household , bath , cattle shed , store house . The spacious house has clearly demarcated areas for various functions and rituals .The people belonging to Guthu house people  celebrate functions like bisu ( ugadi ) etc together with other religion people .

                          A typical Guthu House has chavadi where people gather and speak together .Guthu House is a coastal landlords family home . Usually Guthu House will have their own deities . There are many diaties like Kodamandaya , Jarandaya , Mysandaya , Dumavathi , Panjurli , Daiyandi , Koddabbu and Tannimaniga etc . Many Guthu families are inherited with temples  management ,joint families of the Guthu had a lavish lifestyle . It allowed them to indulge in sports and  cultural activities like Kambala ( wet field buffalo race ) , cock fight and other culture and folk entertainment events.Guthu house had a private judiciary system where justice was given to people living in the village. Guthu mane had vast lands which were cultivated directly or given out on annual rent ( geni ) designated in mooras of rice .
